Micky van de Ven scored twice as Spurs extended their winning streak in away games in the Premier League and handed Everton their first defeat at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

The Toffees were undefeated in their five previous fixtures at their recently opened stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock, having left their historic home behind after 133 years at the conclusion of the previous campaign.

But Spurs captain the Dutchman struck on two occasions from corners in the opening 45 minutes to place their strong form at risk, and they were unable to mount a comeback before the midfielder - set up by ex-Everton forward Richarlison - nodded in a third to seal the victory.

The Everton defender believed he had equalized the scores a short while after Van de Ven's first goal, directing a bullet header past Guglielmo Vicario from an Everton corner.

Beto, in the meantime, failed to convert a handful of opportunities, while Vicario made a series of fine stops to ensure the London club went five away games without defeat in the Premier League.

But the VAR stepped in, instructing the match official to review the score on the pitchside monitor and the official ruled that the winger and Iliman Ndiaye were in an illegal position and had interfered with the Tottenham goalkeeper.

This victory elevates the manager's team into third place in the Premier League, five points off local foes and leaders the Gunners.

The Merseyside club stay 14th and sit half a dozen points ahead of the drop zone.

Tottenham analysis: The defender fulfils role at each end of the field

Following a drab weekday display in the Champions League against Monaco, where they managed a mere two shots on goal, Frank opted for the French striker up front instead of former Toffees player Richarlison.

The summer signing was unable to make much of an impact before being replaced for the substitute after 60 minutes on the field, but it emerged he proved unnecessary in the end.

Centre-back Van de Ven converted into an offensive threat to be reckoned with.

Tottenham's opening strike came from a well-worked set-piece play, with Rodrigo Bentancur directing the ball toward the six-yard box for an unmarked the defender to score.

And the captain - stepping up as captain in the Argentine's unavailability - added his next goal in first-half stoppage time as he rose above the England keeper to nod in.

Van de Ven was just as outstanding in defensive duties, partnering effectively with Kevin Danso as the pair handled excellently with the 34 crosses sent their way by the opposition.

Everton analysis: Toffees lacking finishing touch

Everton's new home had been a fortress, but it seems the freshness may have faded somewhat and supporters headed to the exits after Sarr's third for Spurs.

The end in Everton's unbeaten home run will not be a major concern for David Moyes, but their striker situation will be.

Beto and Thierno Barry - the Toffees' pair of established strikers - had scored just one league goal combined before the weekend's match.

And they were failed to contribute to that poor tally on a wet and gloomy evening on in Liverpool.

Beto's performance was summed up when he chose to overhead kick a golden opportunity from near the goal, even with having space and opportunity to readjust for a simpler shot that would have challenged Vicario.

The substitute, as well, failed to influence the game after coming on for Beto in the second half.

It wasn't for a shortage of opportunity. Most of Everton's attacks came through Grealish and Ndiaye, who relentlessly delivered dangerous crosses into the Spurs penalty area.

The Toffees: Moyes' men head to the Stadium of Light in the Premier League on Monday, 3 November at 8 PM.

Tottenham: Spurs go to St James' Park on Wednesday, 29 October for their next round Carabao Cup match against the Magpies.
