Revitalized Medvedev Secures First Trophy in Over Two Years
Nineteen of Medvedev's 21 championships have been earned on hard courts
A comeback the Russian player secured his initial trophy for nearly 30 months with success over opponent Moutet in the competition final.
Medvedev, a ex- number one, has had a difficult period, managing just one win at the major tournaments and suffering a setback at the American major.
His unpredictability on the professional circuit - and struggles with his serving in specific - caused him dropping out of the top ten and ultimately splitting with long-time trainer Cervara.
Currently collaborating with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, the tennis star has steadily improved in the past month - peaking in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.
It is the player's first trophy after the Italian tournament and first on a hard court from March of the previous year.
Victory also indicates Medvedev has achieved twenty-one titles at 21 different tournaments.
"It's the first time I am participating in a competition with my two daughters at once, so to secure a championship is especially meaningful," commented world number 14 the champion.
"This championship is in dedication of my second daughter my daughter, because the first title I won when my older daughter my daughter was born was for her."
Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his past six championship matches, featuring in the German tournament previously this season.
Medvedev's counter-punching play style and frequent outbursts on the playing surface had prompted some to doubt if his capacity to perform at the top level was concluded.
Yet the player has made changes in the past month, striving to approach the net and compete positively, backed up by an better service.
He fought back from a break down in the initial set against the challenging Moutet, winning four of the concluding five games to go ahead.
The competitors traded service breaks in the second set before the Frenchman, bidding for his initial professional championship, gained dominance to push for a decider.
He rescued 4 early-game chances in a close third set before the champion broke to fifteen to close out the victory.
Fittingly, the winner earned the win with a point at the net, with the Frenchman incapable to handle a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
